About Dalmatian Rescue of Colorado

DRC, a designated 501 (c)3 nonprofit organization, is not a shelter. We are a group of volunteers who work with rescued dogs by fostering them in our own homes whenever possible; hence treating them the same as one of our own. We will use a kennel or day care if necessary to save a dog, but that dog will move to a foster home as soon as possible. All costs associated with the care of our dogs come from adoption donations and from the generosity of donors. We provide vaccinations, spaying/neutering, socialization and training of these dogs until a permanent home can be found. Our number one commitment is to the Dalmatians and Dalmatian Wannabes that come our way. We carefully screen all applicants and do home visits to assure each dog is placed in the best home for him/her and he/she is the best companion for that home.

GUNNER (GunnyBear) NEEDS A FOSTER HOME! Too long in day care boarding, he's getting discouraged! He was a favorite at the TX shelter where he was nearly put to sleep; so hes come a long way to find a new home. Gunner is a gentle, vibrant Mastiff/Dalmatian mix; maybe 2 yrs. old and will probably top out around 80 lbs. when fully grown. Hes a playful, energetic fellow whod love to spend the day hiking with you and then curl up on the couch for some snuggle time. Gunner is housebroken and learning to walk on a leash; hes currently attending an 8-week obedience class and doing very well. At his young age, hes still easily distracted, but extremely food motivated and eager to please. He can use more training and would do best with an experienced dog person who has a soft touch. NO CATS for this guy; he must have had a bad experience as a stray that hes not easily going to forget. In his temporary foster home, Gunner did well with the other female dogs, but will stand his ground when challenged. We are guessing he needs experience with other dogs; maybe was an only dog in the past? He is extremely affectionate and has no clue that hes not lapdog size! Our immediate need is for a foster home so he can continue his training and socialization until perfect home comes along. You could be that awesome home for this teddy bear with spots! Currently boarding at a day care facility in Aurora, you can contact Karen for more information at karen.mellis@ucdenver.edu. Adoption $200.
