| We were looking for a new buddy for our lab-mix Alex. Since we had all of our dogs from shelters from the US, and we were planning a vacation trip to Colorado, we tried to find a Dalmatian over the Internet (we already had 2 Dalmatians before). Quickly we found the "Dalmatian Rescue" website and were very exited, since we saw so many pictures of Dalmatians available for adoption. Beth was extremely helpful, but we also saw that we would have to decide once we got there, since the pictures kept changing very fast. | |
| We arrived in Colorado Springs and
it took about one week and the decision
was made: "Dockers", who was at a fosters home
in the northern part of Colorado Springs, became
so attached to us from the beginning that we felt he
adopted us.
We got him 2 days before our trip back to Switzerland and kept him with us at a friends house in Colorado Springs. Dr. vet. Stahlecker from Divide, whom we knew very well from our 3 years in Woodland Park, took care of the necessary health certificate. He also gave us something to tranquilize "Champ", by now we renamed him, for the long trip back. |

Champ and Alex |
In the morning of our departure we checked in at the AA counter in Colorado Springs with our special luggage. Champ had frozen ice in the kennel and was very relaxed and sweet. Since we had to travel through Dallas, and it was mid September, we were worried that it might be too hot down there. As a matter of fact, he did so well on that long trip that he didn't even had to adjust a lot to this different environment. Alex and Champ made friends right away. We are happy that everything worked out the way it did ,and that we were able again to provide a safe and long lasting home for our new part of the family. We would also like to thank the foster parents of Champ. They were very patient with us and in the end also a little persistent that Champ is the dog for us. |
