Daniel (alias NEO) joined Daisy (another
rescue Dal) and one of Beth White's 1989 puppies named Misty in June of
this year. He is a handsome boy, with lots and lots of spots--in fact he
has spots on spots. Once again, I am amazed at the Dalmatian instinct
for horses. He is five, and had certainly never seen a horse--he made
himself right at home, no attempts at chasing, and was immediately
accepted by the horses. The great test around our home is whether we
have a carriage dog or not--and the Dals have never failed yet. He went
out the first two times with horse and cart on a quick release leash and
the third time out, running free. True to form, he stays right with the
carriage, stays out of the way of the horses feet, and surprisingly like
most Dals, trots on the right side of the carriage and only ranges out
about 100 feet. He was very overweight, so we had to make short
excursions at first, but he has conditioned right up, and loves to run
with the horses--which is good since he a high energy dog that needs
alot of exercise. He is definitely an exuberant boy.
He was immediately adopted by Misty who is 13, and she obviously considered this handsome guy a "present" for her. She perked right up, and loves to walk with the younger dogs (with some quiet supervision to make sure they don't overtire her). Daisy has bonded strongly with him as well. He thinks he's rather special getting to lead the two girls around. I am sad for Daisy and Daniel that their families abandoned them--but they truly are a blessing to our house, and they have a "forever" home. |
