Abby
arrived at my house on April 13, 2003. Having never owned a Dalmatian
before, and after hearing all the myths from my friends when they
heard that I was getting one from Colorado Rescue, I was a little
apprehensive. But when I saw the big smile on her face when she came
up the driveway, I knew we would be all right. Abby was fearful but
her tail was continually going back and forth. My cat, Ringo, was
jealous and seemed to always be standing behind Abby so got plenty of
swats with the tail. Within three days while Abby was sleeping on her
bed in the living room, and Ringo climbed in with her and went to
sleep. Ringo still rules the roost but is very fond of Abby now.
I took Abby to visit a couple of my neighbors who live on each side and they immediately took to each other. I was concerned at first because all Abby would do is follow me around. I wondered if she could run at all. By now she shoots out the door when I let her out into the yard and runs all over to be sure everything is okay. The only time I need a leash is when we walk and then only because there is a leash law here. She has whipped me into shape and we now try to walk three miles everyday. When we walk there is always someone telling us how pretty she is and giving her a pet. They always comment about all the myths they’ve heard about Dalmatians and we try to change their minds.
I
want to thank Beth and my friend, Katy, for finding Abby for me. Ringo
thanks them too! |
