Our newest family member is our greatest joy! In May, ’03 Bo, our 13 ˝ yr old deaf male Dalmatian, passed away. Our female, Perdita (now 11 yrs old) was so depressed as were we. Perdi has only even known companionship, her depression got worse over time, not better. We decided another pet was in order to cheer us all up – Enter Sampson! We adopted Sampson (Sammie) in July, ’03 after Dalmatian Rescue allowed us a “trial run” over a weekend. See Perdi is not a very social dog, doesn’t make friends easily, we had to be sure that any new dog would fit with her. I was overwhelmed by Sammie’s pleasant yet playful disposition and Perdi took right to him. Sammie has brought new life to this ol’ girl (both me and Perdi!) Sammie, according to DR, was found with a female companion in a snowstorm last winter. Evidence of once wearing a collar but no collar to be found. They were hungry, tired and frostbit. DR team nursed them both back to health and the female (Delilah) was adopted. Sammie, too, was adopted for a short time but appeared to not get along well with babies. I found Sammie on the internet at DR’s web site and fell in love at first site. I was saddened by his story but delighted to learn he was available and at a foster home very close by. I convinced my husband that “this was the one” and boy, was I right. Sammie is an absolute joy for all of us. He has shaved years off of Perdi, she now runs and plays with Sammie, especially in the water (lake, pond, stream), it’s as if she has a new lease on life. Sammie is extremely well behaved, well trained, and well mannered. He loves to run…he has also become my shadow…like following me everywhere, even into the bathroom! |
