We had been emailing
Dalmatian Rescue for a month or so saying that
we wanted an adult Dalmatian. Sophie was about 5 or 6 years old
at the time, about to be put down at the Denver Shelter. Rescue took her
and put her in a foster home with children and three other dogs. In November 2001 we drove to Cheyenne,
WY
from Ogden, UT and the foster family drove up from Denver
to give Sophie to us. |

Sophie had no social skills and had been constantly fighting with the other dogs. When we got her she had a broken tailbone, several stitches, and sores on both front legs nervous licking. She didn't know how to play and wasn't leash trained or any other kind of training for that matter. We took her to a trainer in Ogden who charged us half price and gave us three long personal training sessions. It was a big help, and after a year with us she is fat and happy. She is learning to play by "shaking" and doing the happy dance. Her tailbone healed and now she wags her tail constantly, so we nicknamed her "Thumper". She is our baby and we are a happy family now. We were so glad Beth took a chance with us sight unseen. Sophie is our second Dalmatian. Our first one was Winslow, who we had from eight weeks old till we had to put her to sleep for congestive heart failure at 12 1/2 years old. Sophie will not be our last Dalmatian, we adore them! |
