Rascal & Jessie

They say a picture is worth a thousand words – in this case, I have to agree.  We are very blessed to have two rescued Dalmatians that allow us to share a home with them.  Rascal (tall handsome dude) came to live with us almost two years ago when Beth just wouldn’t take no for an answer – you all know how persistent she can be.  Jessie, pretty little girl with one blue and one brown eye, has just been with us since the first part of April.  Jessie was running around in the streets of Compton California with a very badly broken leg when a kind soul (Peggy) captured her, and sent out a plea for donations so her leg could be fixed.  Peggy, who is really involved with cat rescue, had good intentions to make Jessie a part of their family.  However, Shelby’s (5 year old daughter) allergies to dogs forced her to seek other avenues.    I knew from the moment that I saw Jessie’s picture that we were destined to be together.  When we originally rescued Rascal he, like so many other Dalmatians, had been abused and certainly didn’t trust people very much.  He did, however, immediately adopt Spike (our Great Dane) as his best friend, guardian and protector.  Spike turned 10 years old this month and won’t be with us too much longer.  We were very concerned about the trauma that Rascal would experience without his buddy.  However, now he has a sister that has been great for all involved.  Rascal and Jessie run and play and wear each other out.  Spike participates as he feels like it, but is getting much needed rest and relief from being continually pestered by the dot dogs.  Sure we have a long way to go to having well behaved Dalmatians – but let me tell you this is a ride I would never miss for the world.
