I had lost my beloved Lucky at beginning of
April. He was a Cockapoo I had found as a stray over 13 years ago and
was my best companion. I was lost and heartbroken but was not wanting to
have a new dog yet. In mid-May, I went to the Petfinder's home page and
that is when I saw Riley (aka Smokey) and read his heartbreaking
story.
I had previously owned three pure bred Dalmatians and one mix so know the breed fairly well and he certainly did not resemble Lucky in any way except the sad story. I figured at 7years old, not a purebred, having had heartworms and fleas so bad he barely had any hair when you rescued him, he probably would not easily find a home. He had to be renamed since the cat I had for 13 years was named Smokey and that cat is always in trouble. Since he was found near Riley Ks and Riley seems to be a very male name that is what I renamed him. He has been here about a month and I just love him. He is sweet and affectionate and playful. He is also very smart so responds very quickly to new rules etc. One thing he certainly does and that is soak up all the love he can and I am a champion at spoiling a dog! One thing I would like to add. Beth and Barb are truly wonders - They are incredible ladies with their own incredible stories. They provided all kinds of assistance and certainly went above and beyond what they needed to do. You will not regret adopting from this wonderful organization. Thank you for saving Riley! Whitney |
