Happy Beginnings

Wow, it’s dry out here in New Mexico compared to weather in Houston. We drink A LOT of water! But we’re getting to like the dry (and hurricane-free) climate, and we certainly like knowing where our next meal is coming from and knowing that the drinking bowl is ALWAYS full. Plus, there’s the added bonus of regular bones to support our…well…CHEWING habit.

If you haven’t guessed already, Mom, with the help of a lot of her rescue friends like Beth in Colorado and Patsy in Texas as well as a bunch others whose names we can’t remember rescued us from Hurricane Ike (we were moved FIVE times). We love our new Mom, though we think that we sometimes exasperate her with our enthusiastic “way” on a leash, particularly when we see other dogs or a horse. (We think that there may be some connection between us and the horses but we’re not quite sure about it yet.)  Mom, however, has gotten wise and is now taking us on solo walks to teach us some “leash manners”! We’re trying to be real good boys so that we can walk together again very soon.

We recently met our surrogate “Dad” and his two 8-year old black Labs. We tried to get a little crazy with the Labs, but we were sternly disciplined. (They were pretty gentle with us, really.) We did have a blast running around our BIG yard with them and sharing our collection of bones.

One thing we didn’t mention is that we do have heartworms. We didn’t find this out until Mom took us to get tests. We have a GREAT vet, however, and she is going to make sure that we get rid of the nasty worms. We’re not looking forward to the injections and know that being confined for six weeks isn’t going to be much fun. (Though Mom is such a sucker – we’ll be able to get lots of treats and bones out of her.)  We’re looking forward to it all being over, so that we can get on with our lives and go on LOTS of hikes with Mom (when she feels we’re a little better behaved, of course).

Anyway, that’s all we can think of for now. We’re happy, getting healthy, and looking forward to lots of new adventures in this strange new place of mountains and desert.

Love,
B & B

PS: We understand that we’re going to see snow real soon. We’re not sure we understand what that is but Mom says we’re going to love it.
