We adopted Izzy from Dalmatian Rescue of Colorado in April of 2008 and couldn't be happier. She is now almost a year old and is a complete doll. The rescue, as well as our vet, thinks she is a Catahoula mix of some sort. She is deaf, but that never slows her down! Her vocabulary of hand signs is ever-growing and she consistently responds to about ten. She has even learned to speak! This is by far the most entertaining of her commands, as it's a different sound every time. :)
She's become buddies with our two older dogs as well as our three cats. She and our oldest cat, Castor, play and chase each other throughout the house and then nuzzle and lick each other. Izzy loves nothing more than cuddling with our oldest dog, Panzer, and licking his face. She has too many friends at our local dog park to list and is especially fond of Great Danes, for some reason. She is a cuddle bug, always sneaking up on the bed, and loves to cuddle with her forehead pressed into your neck so she can feel the vibrations as you talk to her.
Her favorite pastimes include supervising all cooking projects, romping at the dog park, car rides, organizing the toy bins, walks through the neighborhood ("I just KNOW there's someone waiting to pet me!!!"), building nests in the bay window with her blanket (as well as a clean towel or two, should you foolishly leave them within reach!), playing peek-a-boo with the neighbors through the slats in the fence (she has the next-door neighbor well trained to come over for chin scratches), and stealing warm spots when someone gets up from the couch.
We truly feel lucky to have this special girl as part of our family, and look forward to many years to come with her. Thanks, Dal Rescue!
