Lucky

Lucky

Lucky (known as “Rudy” while in foster care) was our vacation souvenir while traveling through Colorado. We lost our last Dal, Pearl, to natural causes in November 2007 at age 13 1/2. We searched the web for Dalmatians in shelters that were on our vacation trip route (thanks to free internet and a very long extra-inning All-Star Game) and thought ‘Rudy 3’ fit the bill. We needed a relaxed, kid friendly dog since our neighbor children always played with Pearl. They’d been asking for a new Dal since Christmas and all spring. We e-mailed our interest to Dalmatian Rescue of Colorado along with our adoption application around 2 AM and received a reply within hours. They had even checked our references by 8 AM the next morning!

After arriving in Denver last July, we were not able to meet Rudy right away due to a car repair. We finally met for the first time on the Tuesday morning we were returning to Illinois. Rudy seemed a little ‘elderly” initially, but had been given dramamine for his car trip. He had excellent car manners. Rudy was very well behaved during his walks and meal breaks during the first travel day. We spent the first night in an Iowa hotel and Rudy got to sleep with us in a king size bed. When we arrived back home in Oak Park the next evening and Rudy exited the car in front of the house, the neighbor children playing outside literally ran over to meet  him. Rudy was playing with 5 children within the first 15 minutes at his new home. Talia, age 9 at the time, already had him sitting up for treats. (The neighbors buy treats for their kids to give our dog.) We didn’t know he was so talented! Talia also gave him his new name--Lucky. We feel very lucky! Our Dal, Lucky, is obedient, loyal, and adds joy to our home.
