Molly, where's the fire???

Beth & Patsy,

I know I probably should have given you an update by now, but better late than never. Smiley Face

It's almost been two weeks since we picked Molly up in Amarillo. She is a very sweet dog and seems to LOVE people - and people love her! Almost every person that has met Molly or seen her picture has said what a great looking dog she is. Because of her one blue eye, they invariably ask if she's blind, but that's understandable. It's also interesting to hear people's prejudice against Dals... I didn't realize that there was so much! Lots of "I've heard that Dals are hard to train / hard to control / are all deaf" sort of comments, and every one of them has been wrong so far. People are amazed at how calm and loving she is!

I'd say Molly's biggest problem so far, other than adjusting to a new home, has been Howie, our Dachshund. Howie and Molly started with a mutual distrust of each other, frankly, but the have been together enough now that they are finally starting to play together. Neither Molly or Howie understand that there is a 40 pound difference between them, so it's been funny to watch them play. Howie also plays with squeaky toys, and I'm not sure if Molly "get's it". She DOES understand (and excels at) taking Howie's toy away from him the instant he lets it go! We bought Molly her own toy, and we're working with her on it. When we throw it, she only chases it about one in five times, and then when she gets it, she won't bring it back. Molly is also pretty jealous and will use her body to block Howie if I am petting her and Howie comes up to me, but Howie growls right back. They're both wagging their tails when they growl, so I guess it's okay?

We try to take her for a walk at least once, and sometimes twice, a day. She loves walking and gets right in the harness we bought for her when it's time to walk. She's really good on a leash, as well - MUCH better than Howie, who seems to try to tangle himself up at every mailbox and fire hydrant we pass.

I think that Molly is adjusting well, and we're glad to have her. Thank you both again for all of your help in getting her this far. I want you to know that the work you are doing matters, and both Tiffany and I sincerely appreciate it!
