Bandit III

Hello! My name is Bandit III. I live in Mason City, Iowa. My master says I'm about 2 or 3 years old! I don't know when my real birthday is but my master says we'll celebrate it each year on May 17th. That the day he drove down to Missouri to pick me up... and I got to meet him for the first time.

I'm Bandit III because I'm the third Dalmatian that my master has rescued. In my fenced-in back yard there is a shiny marker sitting among the pretty flowers with my picture on it. Well, sort of... it's a picture of a Dalmatian and three paws. The writing which I don't fully understand says, "In Memory of Our Faithful, Furry Friends and Companions". My master says it's there to remember me and the other two rescued Dalmatians. I consider myself fortunate to see the memorial stone while I'm still alive.

My master says' it's time to get my paws a little wet in the field of journalism. Not knowing what that means, he says it's time to tell my story to the readers of NewSpots! I'm not real sure what that is, but I surely know my story.

My master says I should tell you about the things I enjoy about my life. That's easy! There are several: I love taking our 45 minute walk each morning along a tree-filled path surrounded by water. At first I pulled too hard... so my master says... and I had to slow my pace and try not to become too distracted by the squirrels and rabbits I see around me.

Speaking of squirrels and rabbits, I enjoy chasing them in my back yard. They come to feed on the bird seed and apples found there. The squirrels walk along the utility lines overhead and jump branch to branch in the trees. This excites me to now end as I'm often chasing them while standing up on my back legs and barking. It's good exercise. They'd better wish I never catch them! There's also a neighborhood cat that I like to sit and watch... and wish!

I have several toys in the house that I like to play with. There's the green ball I throw in the air and toss down the basement steps and then there's my stuffed doggy that I carry around; along with a twisted rope that I chew on or use to play tug-o-war with my master. I have two beds... now isn't that special! I have one for night and one for day. At night I sleep in a large crate just at the foot of my master's bed. At first when I went to the cage it was locked after I got in. Now the door is always open and I just go there when I want to sleep... very soft. During the day I sleep on a giant wool-like pillow in the sunroom. That way I can rest and still be in the middle of all the action. I also like to sleep on the soft grass in the sun in my back yard.

I find great pleasure in waking up my master every morning around 5:30. I jump up and hug him with my snout and try to wake him with my paws. Some mornings he says, "Not now, Bandit". No problem... I just go back to bed and wait.

Another fun time is jumping up on his lap and turning over so that he can rub my belly. That really feels good!

I also enjoy our trips in the car. He rolls down the window partway so that I can stick my head outside and be entertained by the sights and smells that we pass by and to feel my ears flopping in the breeze.

I am really quite smart. I already understand some of his words to me: 'Time for bed' (That means I go to my cage.) another is 'Let's go bye-bye' (I quickly jump and turn around in circles); and finally, 'It's time to eat' (I quickly run to the room with all the wonderful and tasty smells.).

I have put on about ten pounds since I've been here. No longer do I need to go in search of food or wonder if I'll even be able to eat today. My meals are served twice a day... 6 a.m. and 5 p.m. so I never have to worry about finding food or having a hungry stomach. I've also noticed that my hair is a lot whiter and cleaner and softer. Everybody enjoys my black and white outfit. Many strangers comment when they walk by what a pretty dog I am. I, of course, take in the compliments with pride.

My life has changed drastically in the last three months. I certainly thank my master for that... but also I need to thank Dalmatian Rescue of Colorado for helping me find a new home. I wish all Dalmatians could be as fortunate as I.
