I work at Harmony Hospital for Pets who sees a lot of the dogs from Dalmatian Rescue. This last fall, a sweet little Heeler pup named Kit came in on an emergency. She had been bitten by a rattlesnake. A few weeks earlier, I had seen her cute face on a flyer posted at the hospital and fell in love. However, I have a very old dog with health issues, at that time a year old pup, and my "mama's boy" somewhere in the middle. It just wasn't meant to be, but then I spent time with her as she dealt with the snake bite and I wasn't sure I could part with her. After making it through I called to inquire after her and found out that she had found a home. I was happy for her and that was that. Well, then I saw Beth White again a month later and found out Kit was back and without a home. My husband and I knew if we 'tried her out' for the weekend, she would never go back and that was exactly what happened. She is a special little girl since she is deaf, but someone forgot to tell her she is at a disadvantage. She has made best friends with the now 16 month old Heeler pup and they play till they drop. The rest of the clan have taken her in and shown her the ropes. KitKat has the sweetest disposition... no one can resist her. She is learning some sign language and we are learning a few tricks to help her in the hearing world. This week we face the harsh decision to help our very old friend to her rest, but KitKat has helped brighten our days with the care she shows all the members of our family - human and furry.
