Opal and Lily
(aka Jeri and Halle1)

I had no experience with dogs, but I loved them. When I finally entered college and then later moved out for the first time I had to fulfill a lifelong promise to myself. I had always said that when I moved out I would get a dog. I'd always loved Dalmatians and after much reading and research I decided that would be the type of dog for me. A college friend of mine was fostering dogs for Beth and that's where I first met Opal, then Jeri, and I know she'd be the perfect dog for me. Sure enough with tons of luck Beth actually agreed to adopt a dog out to someone young with no dog experience. I still count this as a blessing because since that day Opal has enriched my life in ways I didn't even expect. I read lots on training and behavior and today we have a tight bond and she's an absolute great dog. Eventually after I finished college I met my husband. Before we got married we adopted a dog together. We thought we'd find a friend for Opal and we adopted a Basset Hound and named him Rufus. This was definitely not the type of dog to compliment Opal's games and activity level. Although we love Rufus and find our Basset Hound a very charming dog, we know that Opal needed someone to play with.

Our life lead us to our wedding and then afterward we came to buy our house. Finally we were going to have a backyard for our two babies and that's when I figured would be a great time to add to our family. I always imagined having another Dalmatian one day. When I contacted Beth, she had Halle (now Lily) and we didn't have our house right away. We had been temporarily living in a third floor apartment and we know we couldn't take Halle until we had that yard. Three floors up with two dogs was already tough enough. Beth was kind enough to find us a foster home for Halle for a month and the day that we were able to take her was also the day we moved into our new home. Lily has been here with us ever since.

She is now a year old, Opal and Rufus are five. I can't imagine our lives without dogs and my dogs mean the world to me. Although Rufus and Lily are amazing dogs, Opal is who I am closest to. She was my first and taught me so much. My husband and I hope to continue to work with Beth and Dalmatian Rescue of Colorado no matter how far we go. We love our Opal and Lily and could not imagine a life without them and look forward to working with Dalmatian Rescue for the duration of our dog's lives and in the future with other dogs. Thank you for your trust in such an inexperienced young girl! You've changed our lives!
