Hi! My name is Starla Ray and I am 2 and a half years old. I had to write this happy beginning story for my Mom because she keeps putting it off. I guess I am keeping her pretty busy these days. Well, here's the scoop...
Mine is truly a happy story because I was a loved puppy for as long as I can remember. But my first Mom had to give me up because she couldn't afford two dogs and the older one was sick. She didn't know that Craigslist wasn't the best way to find me a home. But lucky for me some nice person told Dalmatian Rescue of Colorado about the ad and that nice man, Karl, came and got me. He took me to his house and it was really cool. I really loved Linda and the dogs, Lisa and Mojo. But there was this other mean dog (at least I thought she was) there that wanted to bite my face. So, they had to find me another foster home 'til I had a forever home.
That's where my new Mom came in. She had just called Beth to ask about adopting another dog in Texas. Beth said that the other dog was fine for the time being but could she take care of me for a week until they had another place for me. Luckily, my Mom said "bring her over!" So Karl and Linda brought me to meet my new Mom (I was hoping). It was hard saying goodbye to them, but I could tell this was going to be one cool place to hang out. There are two other nice girls, Lacey and Angel. Lacey is kind of an old lady and doesn't like to play much, but she is very sweet to me. Angel is a spotted girl like me that my Mom and Dad adopted from the rescue a year ago. She is cool but she was kind of shy at first. I figured out that she didn't know much about the fun of chasing balls and playing with a young gal like me. So, I taught her! Angel had to get spinal surgery soon after I became her sister. I learned to be very gentle with her while she was getting better and she is all better now. We are inseparable!
Oh! Oh! I forgot to tell you about my yard... there's so much room to run and play and there's a stream and big boulders and squirrels and bunnies to watch on the other side of the fence. At first, I was content to stay inside the fence. But then this dumb squirrel made fun of me saying that I couldn't chase him and I said "Oh yes I can" and went right over the fence after him. Well he got away and my Mom freaked out when she saw me jump the fence and now I am getting all sorts of special attention with training and treats and this funny collar that gently vibrates when my Mom and Dad need to get my attention. Oh I forgot to mention I am deaf... just a minor complication but nothing serious. My Mom and Dad and furless brother, Kieran, tell me that I am the prettiest, sweetest, most specialist dog in the world. Maybe I don't exactly hear them say it, but I can tell by their loving faces and smiles and hands! I know they tell Angel and Lacey that too,but that's just so they don't feel bad!
Oh my goodness! I forgot to mention the cats. Their names are Merlin, Cinder and Rapunzel and they are the most curiously strange creatures. Can you believe Mom and Dad actually let them stay in the house with us?! I loved to chase them but figured out really fast that it was not a good idea. Besides the fact that Mom and Dad didn't like it, I found out that cats have mean claws that really hurt. So, I have figured out how to just play with them at a distance and give them their space.
This story started back at the end of July and so you are probably wondering about the fact that I was only supposed to be here for a week. Well, silly human! You should know that my new family fell in love with me in the first ten minutes I was here and we are now in the process of living happily ever after.
