Kaleah
(aka Autumn)

Kaleah & Kai

I adopted a little 12 week old pup named Kai from Dalmation Rescue of Colorado last October. He is a little deaf boy who is full of energy and silliness. I noticed how Kai really leaned on Amaya (our already existing resident dog) as his hearing dog. Amaya is getting older, a ripe age of 8. I decided it might be a good idea to get Kai a playmate, a pal he could hopefully grow old with (and let's be real, someone he could pester besides the old girl). I searched the rescue's facebook page, and found a little pup that might be a great fit. Although from the bio, it seemed like a great fit, once Kai and this lil bugaboo met, they were just not hitting it off. It happens sometimes. I shrugged and decided not to push the issue, happy that we at least tried. At the same foster home, there was a big eared pup named Autumn. she was a shy little girl who wouldn't even let me pet her. We put the three dogs into the back yard together and it was love at first sniff. The three just ventured off as a little pack, exploring the smells and sights. Autumn finally came up to me after about 30 minutes. I kneeled down and she just put her chin on my knee and stayed there. That was it; she was coming home with me. It was the easiest introduction in the world. There has never been a scuffle. Being a dog trainer, I know that some times introductions can be trying. This one went off without a hitch. Even the resident cat loved Kaleah (as Autumn was renamed). Kaleah loves to fetch, play tug and of course be my snuggle bug. She is getting over her shyness of strangers very slowly, but I can see the progress. She is working on her manners, which for her wasn't hard since she wasn't a tough dog to begin with. Kaleah is just a gem, well all love her to pieces.
