As I walked through the back kennels to return a dog from a trail walk at Foothills Animal Shelter, Golden, Colorado, I stopped short in my tracks when I saw Martina. Her back was facing the front of the kennel and was calmly watching other dogs as they became excited and barked, whined and pawed. Her little polka dotted ears caught my eye and I was compelled to find out what she was. When I read Pit Bull/Dalmatian Mix, my heart took a leap, as we own another Dalmatian from Dalmatian Rescue and are so in love with her. Martina soon became a favorite at the shelter, as she was an "easy" walk, smart affectionate and knew how to sit, shake, stay and even open doors. We took her home for an overnighter (after approximately three months at the shelter) only to find we were totally unable to give her up. We presently have, besides the Dalmatian, another Pit Bull Mix, Beagle and Italian Greyhound. We wanted a playmate for the Pit Bull, but she surprised us by being an incredible playmate for both Dobby (the Dalmatian) and Marge (the Pit Bull). Watching the fun play is way better than watching television and we are so blessed to have Martina join our happy pack. Ric R. |
