Raven
(aka Buddy5)

Raven and Rich

Raven is doing better than I could have ever expected or hoped. He and I bonded immediately and I feel as though this adoption was just meant to be. He and his big brother, Merlin, have bonded as well and they are great buddies, they run the back yard together and sleep side by side. I was so glad to see this as you already know, I lost my first Dal, Oreo, last November, and then my second Dal, Domino, started having health issues and at nearly 15 I knew his life was coming to a close. This saddened my beyond words, and I also realized that when Domino passed, Merlin would be left all alone and I didn't want that. So I put out the word with Susan at Dal Rescue Tampa Bay to start looking for me another boy to come live with us. Buddy appeared in our scopes three days later and everything began to slide into place for the adoption to go through.

Finally Raven's arrival date was to be on a Sunday, and I was so looking forward to introducing him to my old boy, Domino, and them having some time together. But no one ever said life is fair. My Domino passed on the Saturday morning before Raven's arrival on Sunday. Imagine having to say goodbye to your old best friend and then turn around and welcome a new baby into the house the very next day. But you deal with what you are handed. I can say now that Raven's arrival helped me through the grieving, and helped Merlin as well.

It had been a long time since there had been a zany puppy in the house and I'd forgotten just how much fun they could be. Raven had two speeds... off and real fast! He could spring about so fast I couldn't keep him in the frame of the camera! He immediately began to soak in his new surroundings, and he seemed quite happy to have joined us. We've had the pleasure of watching him grow and learn, and seeing many of his firsts like discovering the frogs in the pond out back and watching them jump. He still gets a kick out of that. I feed the squirrels every night so he goes on squirrel patrol and keeps an eye over them. I feel very grateful to all who helped this little guy come into my life, and very blessed to have him. He is a joy.

Among many of my interests, I am an artist and most of the time am painting photo-realistic aircraft on canvas. But Raven presented a subject matter that I just had to try and paint. The painting is not quite finished, as I have much more detail to do, but I am including a recent photo from my studio so that you can see what a great model he makes. I am planning an entire series of Raven paintings. He is so much fun to paint.
