Missy

We'd been talking about adding a grown Dalmatian to our family for a couple months, and I periodically checked the Dalmatian Rescue sites looking for "our" dog.  We have a 3 year old Dachshund (Little Bit) and a 3 year old cat.  Our girls are now 5 and 16 months, so we felt ready to handle a larger dog.  In mid-October 2004 I checked the available Dalmatians on the Dalmatian Rescue web site, and saw Missy.  She was so pretty, but more importantly her info said she was mellow in the house, and great with children.  It was so important to us to know a dog's history with children and other dogs before bringing one home.  Fortunately, Missy had a wonderful pair of foster parents, and we were able to talk to them and learn about how wonderful she was from first hand experience and realized she was the dog for us!  We contacted Beth White about the possibility of adopting Missy.  Our only problem was location - Missy was in Colorado and we live in Albuquerque, New Mexico. But Beth being the angel she is posted the need for a ride to New Mexico on her dog rescuers email list.  That night I went to bed and prayed that if Missy was to be ours, we would find a ride for her.  Well, the next morning there was an email from Beth saying Missy had a ride to Albuquerque a couple weeks later!

We were so excited!  When Missy arrived we were in awe of her beauty, and we could see immediately she was as gentle and sweet as her foster parents said!  She got along with our other dog from the start, and they are fast friends now.  Little Bit was turning into a lazy, couch-sleeping, chubby Wiener!  Since Missy arrived on the scene, she has taught him how to play again.  They are constantly playing tug-o-war with the rope toys, and chasing each other around the house.  Little Bit is looking trimmer since his new pal arrived on the scene.  Missy is wonderfully patient with our daughters, Hailey (5) and Brenley (16 months).  Missy lets Brenley lay on her, crawl all over her, brush her, and even try to ride her.  Missy just lays there, and when she has had enough she just exits through the dog door to the backyard.  She is just a sweet soul, and loves being with our family.

We feel so blessed to have this sweet little girl join our family.  One thing we discovered after getting her paperwork was that she was born 9/9/01.   Our Dachshund was born 8/9/01 and our cat was born 9/1/01.  So, all three of our animals, who came to us in three very different ways, were born within a month of each other!   Happily ever after,

Robert, Andrea, Hailey, Brenley, Little Bit, Missy & Buffy.
