Champ

Champ

We adopted Champ October 27, 07 after we had to let our 14 1/2 year old liverspot Dal, Molly, go. She was the love of our lives and we missed her so much.

Then we thought about getting another Dalmatian as we just love Dalmatians so much.  We had adopted another boy a few years ago from a rescue here in Durango and gave him a good home and lots of love till he passed away a couple years ago.  He was so sweet and so we thought it would be good to give another one a good home. We brought our other rescue dog, Mandy with us, and went up to Colorado Springs to see him.  It had only been a month since Molly left us and I didn't know if I could do it. Mandy was very sad and missed Molly too, so we thought she needed a companion to fill the void. She wasn't thrilled the first couple days, but then the standoffishness disappeared and the playing was on!

We fell in love with him right away.  He is so cute and funny.  Just wants to play and get loved.  He is fitting in here so well.  Mandy and Champ play and play. He loves the ranch and enjoys running and playing and is a sweet soul. I know Molly would have just loved him. I find that Mandy is so happy to have someone to play with and rough house. They sleep together at the foot of our bed on their own beds on the floor and he doesn't want for anything.  He is getting a lot of love and attention and just soaks it up. They are such wonderful friends when you let them be part of your family. He has a dog door that he can come and go as he wishes to the back yard, and he visits with our horses and a donkey there. Everything is a party for him. We look forward to many great years together.

When we first got him he had to go to the vet, he is so good at the vet's.  Just sits and waits. If we have to leave, he goes in to his bed and sleeps. We had a shoe missing the first day, but since we took it away and gave him a toy (or I should say showed him where the toy bin is) he hasn't bothered with our shoes.  He takes the toys one by one and strings them down the hallway in our house and they eventually all end up by his bed in the office. (He has 3 beds in the house to choose from.  We have beds in just about every room for both of the kids.)  We now have two baskets full of toys in two different spots for him.

He doesn't bark, just whines some when someone comes down the driveway, and he watches the animals he hears on the tv. He is so funny. What a face, who couldn't love it! I can't understand how someone could abandon this guy. He is a big bundle of love.

Thanks so much,  he is a big part of our family.

UPDATE: 02/17/2008

Hi,

We have to update you on Champ. He is doing so well and loving every minute of his time on the ranch. I am entering this picture in a magazine, and you will see why! I call it the "POLKA Dot Dance" , dont' know who's leading! What a great guy he has become and fits in with our family. I wanted to say "Thank you to Dalmatian Resuce" for saving this guy. He is our bab, we laugh with him alot.. He loves to go on the 6
wheeler with his sister and my husband, but his favorite thing is playing with Mandy and running on the 300 acres we have here. He comes back with a whistle now and is a perfect gentleman.
