Samson is 2 years old and full of energy, mischief, curiosity, love and devotion. He loves to cuddle on the couch and sees himself as a 60 lb “lap dog.” Samson had a rough start in life. He was found abandoned in southern California. He was severely underweight and spent nearly 5 months in and out of shelters in Seal Beach, CA. Because of the extraordinary efforts of the people at Dalmatian Rescue, Samson was given a new start in Colorado. When we first brought Samson home, it became clear he had never lived in a house before. He wasn’t familiar with stairs and the television and kitchen appliances terrified him. Toilets were a source of mystery and fascination. We found that he had a taste for TV remotes, Blockbuster DVDs, and anything else that might fit in his mouth……..strangely, he seems to be a book critic and has chewed many of our dog training books. While he still has an occasional relapse, he’s come a long way. He’s learned the rules of the house and it’s clear that we’ve been blessed with a very special dog. To be honest, we were hesitant to bring another Dal home when we adopted Samson. We had recently lost our first Dal, Bacchus (also from Dalmatian Rescue), and weren’t sure we were ready for another. Although we knew that no dog would completely fill the void left when Bacchus passed, Samson has helped our hearts to heal and has been a great addition to the family. He’s helped reenergize our senior Dal, Callie (also from Dalmatian Rescue), and has brought joy and laughter to all of us. Rescue dogs are special. They take work, love and, sometimes, the patience of a Saint, but there’s a certain bond, a special sense of gratitude and loyalty that comes with time. For us, with Samson, the extra work and patience has been rewarded ten-fold with love and laughter! Bob, Sharon & “Spotted Demon Beasts |
