Georgia, an 11+-year-old, dainty dal, came to Home Again Dalmatian Rescue in Fayette, Alabama on October 17, 2008 from Cobb County Animal Control in Marietta, Georgia. She was never put up for adoption at the shelter because she was heartworm positive, so she was for rescue only. Georgia was very sick with kennel cough, emaciated and suffered from Congestive Heart Failure due to her advanced Heartworm Disease. After a month of fattening up and getting over her cough she turned into a bunch of energy, especially after her slow HW treatment started (she was not a candidate for aggressive HW treatment as the HWs were too advanced). She loved walks and toys!! Georgia was more like a cat than a dog. She was a loner. Anything she did had to be her idea. She had a weird obsession for dog toys. Anything she could get in her mouth she would carry into her kennel and then come back out for more things, until she wouldn't have any room for herself in the kennel, it was annoying but cute. I know she had to have had several litters of puppies in her life and her maternal instinct just never went away. We think that is what she did the majority of her life - stayed outside having puppies so she was not socialized with anything, no dogs, no cats, no kids, no strangers or loud noises. Never being able to adjust to these caused her to have undesirable behavior and house manners. But we got used to it and through the frustration she made good company.

During her three and a half months with us we noticed that Georgia had nerve problems in her back causing her to lose control of her rear end if she walked for very long. She couldn't take walks longer than a couple minutes. Even though she really wanted to walk she couldn't do it, her body just couldn't keep up with her mind. Her last week with us, we noticed that she had developed mammary tumors and tumors on her face. The vet said it was cancer that was spreading very rapidly, on top of her advanced HWs. Georgia did not feel very good and started not being very nice, but who could blame her. I would be cranky too if I was that ill. With great sorrow and many tears and thought we ended up letting her go. She is no longer suffering and we held her until she went to sleep on January 27, 2009. We miss you, our little Georgia peach!

Dalmatian Rescue of Colorado donated alot of funds toward her care and we thank them so much.
