Ladybug

Ladybug came as my "heart healer", only a few weeks after I had put down my beautiful boy dog, Bear. I was in the vet's office on the floor crying while saying goodbye to Bear, when my friend and vet, Cheryl, said," I know this is the worst time to ask you, but would you just think about adopting a little Dalmatian who is in desperate need of a home?" Evidently Lady's owner wanted to have her euthenized but Cheryl told her since nothing was physically wrong with Lady, she simply couldn't do it. The owner insisted, so Cheryl adopted Lady with the plan to let her live at the vet's office until a home could be found. Two months later, with Lady now living with one of the vet assistants on her large country property, still no home had been found. Lady lost 20 lbs., which was great, since she had been obese. Two weeks after Bear passed on, my partner, Betts, and I decided to take Lady home for a visit one afternoon. She fit right in, and was good with our cat! It was as if she had always lived with us, just sitting there on the kitchen floor watching us prepare supper, and snuggling down on the dog bed, and tons of kisses for us. She enjoyed our large yard, dashing about and playing hide and seek. One time our good friend and neighbor, Sonny, was playing with her and he hid behind a bush. When Lady came around the corner looking for him, he jumped out and she jumped up straight into the air and started running in a frenzy, doing laps around the house!! She was fond of her bed by the fireplace, and if she got too cold, she'd get up and butt and nudge the bed with
her head to move it closer to the fireplace. We had a barrier there so it wouldn't get too close. In summertime, she'd eat all the strawberries from the garden, and pull bunches of grapes off the vine for an afternoon snack. When we adopted our second Dalmatian, Bailey, she was so good to him. He was cantankerous, but she'd nip him on the butt if he got too growly. Ladybug healed our hearts. She even had a spot on the right thigh that was in the perfect shape of a heart! She liked to be under the covers, and when she slept out on the couch with Bailey, I'd always tuck her in by putting my big sweatshirt on top of her. Sometimes she'd get up at night and come out to see me, with that sweatshirt still draped over her back! Now I wear that shirt and feel close to my "Bug", as I call her.Betts and I have never loved a dog more. She was such a sweet, sweet, little lady. We only had her for 4 years, but she gave us a lifetime of love.
Thank you, Ladybug, and we can't wait to see you again!!!
