I'll never forget the day we met
I knew she would soon be my pet
She put on a show by running around
A new family and yard with lots of ground
She picked up her boot, her toy of pleasure
I would soon learn she was a treasure
When she came home she was afraid
So in the corner is where she stayed
She would learn we meant no harm
So with hugs and kisses she laid on the charm
She was perfect, I say the greatest
I just couldn't wait to tell all the latest
What a beauty and soon to be queen
We all got a laugh at her daily routine
In the morning she nudged with such power
My hand to say "Hey get in the shower"
So up I rose and off I would storm
She lay in my spot because it was warm
I went downstairs to let her out
If I didn't return she was soon to pout
I wanted to give her a pat on the head
In she came for two treats instead
So off to work and out the door
She went back to bed and soon to snore
I always knew when I was gone
She would sleep all day long
When I returned she had a big smile
With teeth and gums wide as a mile
She followed me every step I made
Her love and devotion I was paid
She would lie on the floor and stare with a gaze
If I dared look back her head would raise
Up she rose from the rug
Jumped on the couch to snuggle and hug
She lay by my side pressed real tight
As the sun goes dark for the night
She would run upstairs to be the first to bed
Under the covers with me she laid her head
She showed so much love to me each day
The gift she had was her special way
Her eyes would stare, deep in thought
She was special is what that taught
For all the kids she brought such joy
She would dig in her basket for just the right toy
She loved us all and all who she met
Even when sick she loved the vet
Our days were numbered from the start
I knew from day one she won my heart
When she got ill I knew it would not last
I thank God each day she got past
Her last day with me a walk in the grass
Later that day she would pass
Now that she's gone not a day goes by
I think of her and start to cry
Now it's raining for days you see
Tears from Heaven she misses me
I miss her more and very much
That soft black ear I loved to touch
My friends all say I'm not to blame
But now my life is not the same
Precious memories I'll always keep
Are all now dreams when I sleep
She went somewhere I cannot follow
Now my heart is empty and hollow
So now she is free of the pain
I wait for the day we meet again
Nala I know you are at rest
and all who know simply the best
